Events

riverrun organizes events throughout the academic year to promote the journal and encourage engagement within the campus community. We host many different events, so be on the lookout on our social media accounts, or on Mountain Lion Connect (MLC) for the riverrun name!

Upcoming Events:

Join us at Clyde’s Gastropub from 6:30 to 9:00 pm on October 29th for our Open Mic Night!

Sign up for the open mic by emailing us at riverrun@uccs.edu, sending a text to 719-387-5749, or attending the event! Your best bet to get on the list early is signing up beforehand.

Free food will be available at the event; also, we will be giving out free copies of riverrun’s 52nd edition, so make sure to arrive early if you want to pick one up.

Visit the event’s listing on MLC to RSVP and/or get more information.

riverrun 2026 Volume 53: Please consider submitting work in poetry, visual art, short fiction, creative nonfiction, short performance, and/or translation for next year’s edition of riverrun set to be published in the spring of 2026. We accept works from current UCCS students as well as from UCCS alumni. We look forward to hearing from you!

Next Submission Deadline: February 2026.

We currently publish works of the following categories:

  • Visual Art
  • Poetry
  • Fiction
  • Creative Nonfiction
  • Performance
  • Arts-Related Interviews
  • Literary Translations

Please review the past volumes of riverrun (by downloading volumes from the Current Volume and Past Volumes pages) for examples of what our editorial classes have found to be publishable works. Although, please keep in mind that the editorial class changes every year.

  • All submissions must be the unpublished work of a current UCCS student or a UCCS graduate. Allowing riverrun to publish a piece gives riverrun first North American serial rights; within 30 days of publication, rights revert back to the author.
  • We recommend that your submission be less than 10 pages or less than 10 minutes if submitting performance pieces.
  • Authors or artists whose work is accepted in riverrun may be offered the option of recording a performance of their work to be published on the riverrun YouTube channel. Should an author or artist accept and pursue this option, riverrun will retain all performance rights for 30 days after publication of the video; after that time, all performance rights revert to the author/artist.
  • Questions or comments can be emailed to riverrun’s editors at riverrun@uccs.edu.
  • For more guidelines, please visit our Submittable’s respective genre pages!

Each student in the riverrun class has the opportunity to edit for all genres published in the journal. Each piece has several student readers to ensure an objective selection process. Submitted works are shown anonymously to eliminate any bias.

The works that the students in the riverrun class determine fit best in the journal are selected to be published in the book. The names of authors are published only after the pieces have been finalized.

We adhere to the CLMP regulations of ethics, which you can find here!
